Gitcombe, South Devon

For a taste of heaven, head to south Devon. I'm sure this isn't the county's official slogan, but it should be. There aren't many places in the UK that can match Devon for natural good looks. One of the best ways to enjoy this area, with its superb beaches, coastal paths, golf and fabulous food and drink, is to take a self-catering break.

Gitcombe is a collection of seven self-catering cottages sleeping from two to eight people each, nestled in a secluded valley in south Devon. Along with all the fixtures and fittings that you would expect from a thoroughly modern holiday let—including the latest in sophisticated kitchens—there are also indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts and a very popular outdoor hot tub.

For those keen on the beach walks, the nearby Blackpool Sands was recently voted the best family beach. Those more interested in testing the local brew will also find plenty of pubs in the locality, with the nearest only a mile away. All in all, this is the perfect spot to enjoy some homely autumn sun.
