Reasons to be cheerful—Marcus Trescothick

A tall, left-handed opening batsman, Marcus Trescothick has played a key part in the revival of the England cricket team

My favourite toy is my new Sharp 902 3G phone. I love gadgets and with video highlights of the Ashes, music downloads and picture messaging, this phone has all the latest technology. The best thing is I can video call home. I’m away a lot and it’s great to see my wife and daughter when I call them.

My favourite hotel room is at the Landmark Hotel, London. I’ve travelled the world, but the Landmark is a classy hotel with a real homely feel to it.

The best car I’ve ever driven is my current car—the BMW X5. This car has it all. It’s comfortable and classy, but has a sporty feel as well.

The best new music at the moment is Back to Bedlam by James Blunt.

The best cricket ground is Lord’s. The atmosphere, the history, the lunches and the playing surface make it the best ground to play cricket in the world.

The best exhibition of batting I’ve seen for ages was Kevin Pietersen batting against Australia at Bristol, earlier this summer. His innings of 91 was instrumental in helping us beat the Aussies.

My best cricket memory is my Test debut against the West Indies at Old Trafford in 2000. I made 66 in the first innings and the memories will stay forever.

Three reasons to be cheerful are winning money playing golf against Michael Vaughan and Ashley Giles; having a BBQ at home with friends, family and some quality sausages; and winning a match for England and singing the team song in the changing room with teammates. The atmosphere is emotional and amazing
