The Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair

From 22 to 31 January 2010

BRAFA, the Brussels Antiques & Fine Arts Fair is one of the top buying events in Europe for dedicated collectors, professionals of the art world and those with an appreciation of fine works of art. This annual event is known for the quality and beauty of items for sale and is increasingly growing in reputation as an accessible alternative to Maastricht.

Each January, top international galleries from Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland join Belgium's best antiques dealers for the first major event of the new year at the historic Tour & Taxis venue in Central Brussels.

The fair covers 16 specialist areas while maintaining a manageable size of 120 exhibitors. Brussels' own strengths of tribal arts, 20th century design, oriental art and antiquities are well represented, alongside archaeology, fine art, furniture, contemporary art, sculpture, the decorative arts and porcelain.

Major works by Degas, Ensor, Kandisnksy, Picasso, Klee, Magritte, Matisse, Miro and Rodin will be sold as well as many interesting pieces by lesser known names.

Works of particular note include a chair made by Emile Gallé for himself in 1902, one of the last art nouveau pieces to be made. A rare Max Ernst bronze 'Mother and daughter'. And a Degas charcoal drawing (Trois danseuses) circa 1904 to1906.
