The London Design Festival

The capital's collection of events, exhibitions and seminars kicks off for the sixth time next month. The London Design Festival (September 13-23) has grown to become Europe's biggest. The East End will showcase some of the festival's more cutting-edge designers, while David Adjaye will create a pavilion made of American tulipwood at Southbank Centre. Visitors will be able to walk in and experience the material in an enclosed space. Eyes will also be on Jamie Hayón, whose Trafalgar Square installation is sure to polarise opinion: the Spanish product designer has never been particularly at home with understatement. Elsewhere, sustainable materials will again feature prominently. Arup and Thomas Matthews will join forces from September 17 to produce an interactive, sustainable design hub.
