16-19 July 2009, Waterperry, Oxfordshire
This annual event was inspired by the simple principle that people are fascinated when artists and craftsmen openly demostrate their skills and discuss their work.
The first Art in Action took place in 1977 featuring around 50 artists and attracting 14,000 visitors. Since then the event has grown significantly and is now a showcase for over 250 demonstrators from around the world and from a wide range of disciplines who recreate their studios in marquees in the grounds of Waterperry House, Oxford.
During the four day event, children and adults can also learn new creative skills at practical classes such as painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking; ceramics, calligraphy and illustration, glass, metalwork and jewellery, textiles and woodwork.
Just make sure you get in early for the very popular pottery throwing classes which attract more than 200 people each day.
