British Museum, London
Reflecting cultural and social change in the US during the first half of the 20th century, this exhibition includes highly evocative drawings and prints from American artists such as Edward Hopper, Jackson Pollock and Robert Gwathmey (creator of The Hitchhiker, pictured).
The 174 works take in the onset of the depression, the jazz age and the advance of the skyscraper as a symbol of progress and prosperity.
This free exhibition takes place until September. Next year, it will travel to Nottingham, Brighton and Manchester.
