Chelsea Flower Show

20 - 24 May, Royal hospital, Chelsea, London SW3

This year the Chelsea Flower Show is risking controversy to show a political creation that criticises the shortage of equipment for British troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The display by artist Tony Smith, called More questions than answers, is a floral representation of a soldier's body that uses red petals to symbolise spatters of blood.

Other show highlights include 'Go wild in the garden'—demonstrating how you can encourage wildlife into your garden. The Children's Society garden uses self-seeding plants around a shallow pool to attract bees and butterflies. The River and Rowing Museum garden—Ratty's Refuge—is inspired by the plight of the water vole—the UK's fastest declining species of mammal—and shows how to turn a small space into a water vole haven.
