The Lord of the rings, Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

From June 2007

They used to say that it was the film that could never be made. Peter Jackson’s valiant, if vaguely pointless, trilogy proved them wrong. Now, whoever they are will be saying that it won’t work on the stage. Some are bound to like it, while others loathe it in equal measure. Expect plenty of wizards with hairy faces rising from the dead and hobbits with hairy feet getting scared but soldiering on to defeat the combined forces of evil with only a small pointy sword and lots of good, old-fashioned pluck. Oh, and the good guys win and the ring gets destroyed.
